Each year, choreographers who have won prizes at Yokohama Dance Collection R in previous years return to Yokohama. In 2009, choreographers from Japan and Korea will present their work. Look forward to work of superb quality by these choreographers, whose breadth of vision has been expanded and whose skills have been honed by the opportunities their prizes have made possible.

TACHIBANA Chia

Winner of【the Yokohama Prize for a Brilliant Future】in the Yokohama Solo x Duo<Compétition> + 2007

After graduating from Sophia University, TACHIBANA studied choreography and contemporary dance in Britain at Bretton Hall College, the London Contemporary Dance School, and the Laban Centre. After returning to Japan, she created and presented many works with dances of many nationalities, working in many genres, in Japan and overseas. In 2005, she founded <Яichal Dance Art Museum>. She joins with artists from many fields for each of her works in an infinite exploration of expressive possibilities, on stage and in many other settings. Creating her own creative stage is her constant challenge and joy.



Lee Sun-A
Winner of【the French Embassy Prize for Young Choreographers】in the Yokohama Solo x Duo<Compétition>+ 2007

Began to study dancing in 1998. The award of Yokohama Dance Collection R 2007 included a residency in France, at Cité internationale des arts and Centre national de la danse, running May-October 2007. In October 2007, she further won the audience award and the 2nd prize in the solo contest of Spain's 12MASDANZA at Maspalomas. In 2008, she was in residency at Seoul with Jung Art Vision.




Park Young-Cool
Winner of 【the Jury Prize Award】in the Yokohama Solo x Duo<Compétition>+ 2008

Born in South Korea in 1977. He is a young artist recognized as a competent dancer who received numerous prizes such as Arts Council Korea rising artist prize, first place in Seoul Dance Collection of Seoul Performing Arts Festival 2007 and more. Through performances in many major festivals and choreography contest awards, his works have received great attentions and produced a huge influence. He established his own dance company <OH! MY LIFE MOVEMENT THEATER>. He is appraised as ‘dancer with a flowing strength and Asian sensitivity’. He draws much attention with his motto-pure body and free will of experimentation.

ITO Kaori
Winner of 【the Yokohama Culture Foundation Award】in the Yokohama Solo x Duo <Compétition> 2002 and winner of 【the National Consultative Committee Award】in Les Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationals de Seine-Saint-Denis Yokohama Platform 2004

ITO began studying classical ballet with TAKAGI Syuntoku at the age of five, going on to study dance at the State University of New York-Purchase. After winning her award at the Yokohama Dance Collection in 2002, she appeared in "IRIS," by Philippe Decoufle. In 2004, she began studying with Alvin Ailey on a fellowship from the Agency of Cultural Affairs. She has presented her choreographed works at Joyce Soho Presents and been artist-in-residence at the Queens Museum of Art. At the Centre Chorégraphique National in France, she worked with the choreographer Angelin Preljocaj. In 2007, she appeared with James Thiérrée (Charlie Chaplin’s grandson) in his "Au Revoir Parapluie." She did the choreography for Clemence Poesy. She was also an assistant of Sidi Larbi Sherkaoui for the film "Des bruit autour les gens". In 2008, she created a new work, "Noctiluque" which toured already world wide.


Choi Soo-Jin
Winner of【the National Consultative Committee Award】in Les Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationals de Seine-Saint-Denis Yokohama Platform 2005

Born in Seoul, She is a graduate of Kyung Hee University's Department of Dance and its graduate school and acted in the Seoul Dance Theater. In 2000, performed in the San Diego Dance Theater and <Malashock Dance company> as a guest member in the USA. In 2004, she organized Sound Motion WOOM in Seoul and collaborated with Korean fiddle "Hae-gum" player Jun-hee Kim, media artist Tae-eun Kim, writer Hae-jeong Go, and composer Yong-nan Park. Her performances combine the tradition and modern age, text, sound, motion and image.



Park Hong-Ki
Winner of 【the Yokohama Prize for a Brilliant Future】in the Yokohama Solo x Duo<Compétition>+ 2008

Born in South Korea in 1975. Performed with <the Master Jakkie-Ttapanel dance company> of Montpellier and <the Paris Harmonic> (1998). Took part in <the Compagnie Philippe Saire> (2007), <the Emio Greco/PC> workshop (2003), <the 7th Competition of New Generation Choreographers, Grand Prix (prize for acting), 2006,16th Daegu Dance Competition Prize for Acting (2006). Member of <the Daegu City Modern Dance Company> since January, 2003. We,<Hong's Dance Company> has a young choreographer and several dancers are performing a dynamic movement with creative ideas. A young choreographer would like to make various types of performing. That is he makes this company. Joined the performance of The 8th Seoul Performing Arts Festival "Ice or Water".

This showcase gives choreographers participating in the Yokohama Dance Collection R an opportunity to produce their own presentations and promote themselves. The result is a space in which to enjoy the many facets of contemporary dance, with an emphasis on performance, in video and displays. Admission is free.
