Prizewinners Performances <A TPAM Showcase Program>

Choreographers who have won the Jury Prize, the highest award in Yokohama Dance Collection EX CompetitionⅠ, present their work in the Prizewinners Performance. In this, the twentieth year of the competition, three choreographers who earned prizes in 2012 to 2014, will unveil new works. Each of these three female choreographers will delineate her own world.

    【Jury Prize (2012)】

    Born in 1986. From Gunma Prefecture. Has studied ballet since she was small. A graduate of the Nihon University Faculty of Arts. Since 2008, she has been training at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). She was a finalist at the Toyota Choreography Awards 2012, and has performed overseas in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, China and Singapore, as well as in Japan. In recent years she has collaborated in joint productions with Korean choreographer Soo-Hyun Hwang. She is interested in the relationship between body and mind, and experiments with dance as an approach to exploring this relationship.

    【Jury Prize (2014)】

    The Choreographer, Bo ra KIM, who won the Jury Prize at Yokohama Dance Collection EX2014 focus on contemporary dance, leading the experimental works through the exchange with other genres and Breaking down the concept of genre and space. Approaching to the materials reflecting the same age with the various points of view, Bo ra KIM stimulates the audience’s emotion through unique and witty drama, and dramatic choreographing.

    【CompetitionⅡ Outstanding New Artist Prize (2014)】

    Born in Saitama in 1992, He started dance as club activities of high school. Studied the essence of dance with MAWATARI Teruyo at Daitobunka University (Modern Dance Club.) to refine the skills and have a deeper understanding of body expression. Currently, He is working with UTAGAWA Shota to research the possiblities of the body expressions and movements.

    【Jury Prize (2013)】

    She began studying contemporary dance while a student at Waseda University. In 2009 she performed in, and worked as the assistant on, dance performances by Shuji ONODERA and Ryohei KONDO. In 2010 she began creating her own works. In 2014 she participated in the Sea View International Theatre Festival, National Theatre Wales Residency Program, Wales Labo, the Hanoi Dance Festival, in the Closing Ceremony of the 2014 East Asian Culture City program and various events (in Koshu and Yokohama), and the Tokyo Solo×Duo Dance Festival, amongst others. She has also been organizing a workshop series called “Kayokyoku Switch”, in which participants attempt to become the characters, which appear in the kayokyoku stories, through dance. (Kayokyoku is a form of Japanese pop music inspired by Western music, dating from the Showa Period, and the predecessor of J-Pop.)

Take the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line or Yokohama Municipal Subway to Kannai Station, walk about 15 minutes via Bashamichi.

Take the Yokohane Route on the Shuto Expressway,
exit at Minatomirai or Yokohama-kouen.
