At Yokohama Dance Collection 2016, Hamada Junpei was awarded the French Embassy Prize for Young Choreographers for his outstanding technique and fine compositional skills. The artist will perform a new work produced over a period of six months spent at a residence program in France.

Hamada Junpei
A resident of Kita-Hiroshima, Hokkaido, Hamada has studied hiphop, jazz dance, and contemporary dance at Dance Studio Mind since he was nine and has appeared in many Dance Studio Mind and Hokkaido Dance Project performances. While a university student, he joined the dance school Junction and served as the chair of Spark, the Hokkaido student dance federation. He has been creating contemporary dance works since that period. He won the French Embassy Prize for a Young Choreographer at Yokohama Dance Collection 2016 and participated in a half-year residence program in France starting in January 2017, returning to Japan in July.

This is an award-winning work from the 2016 Seoul Dance Collection Competition at the Seoul Performing Arts Festival, the largest festival of its kind in South Korea.

A new work by Shimojima Reisa who won the Touchpoint Art Foundation Prize and the Outstanding New Artist Prize in Competition II at Yokohama Dance Collection 2017 for her incomparable performance of Monkey in a Diaper where she danced wearing a white diaper.

Shimojima Reisa
Born in 1992, Shimojima, a native of Kagoshima Prefecture, began studying dance at the age of seven, with a focus on Yosakoi dance, which is performed at festivals. Entering J. F. Oberlin University, she studied contemporary dance with Kisanuki Kuniko. She has performed in works by Kisanuki Kuniko, Ito Chie (Strange Kinoko Dance Company), Kawamura Naoka x Kasai Mitsutake, and others. She formed the Kedagoro dance company in 2013 and is responsible for the choreography and production of all its works. She won the Newcomer Prize at the I Want to See Dance Newcomer Series 15, the Outstanding New Choreographer Prize at Yokohama Dance Collection 2017, and the Touchpoint Art Foundation Prize. In the fall of 2017, she performed her work in the fifth Body.Radical International Performing Arts Biennale, in Hungary. She was also a finalist at Dance: Akita 2017.
