ABOUT
Yokohama Dance Collection 2024
Once-in-a-lifetime moments, back to back
Contemporary dance has no set form. No two performances are ever the same. Each artist brings their individuality, confronting not only themselves but society as well, to create a new world of scenery for every performance. This innovative approach has influenced many forms of expression. Dance, a fundamental form of art centered around the human body, creates unique experiences of time and space, allowing only those present to share in its rhythm and flow, both in movement and time. In this sense, the essence of dance might be found in this series of unrepeatable moments. In today’s diverse world, it’s more important than ever to understand others, discover the unique qualities of each individual, and let their potential run free.
Yokohama Dance Collection is a space for discovering various forms of dance, new expressions, and different perspectives—a place to refresh your senses. It offers a broad, open horizon of freedom, welcoming not only dance lovers but also those interested in art, architecture, and the creative movements emerging across Asia and the world.
Yokohama Dance Collection is the annual contemporary dance festival in Yokohama. Over the years, this open competition has given birth to about 500 new works of art thanks to its finalists. Like past years, this year will be graced by the free expressions of recent award-winning artists, the unique worlds crafted by globally renowned choreographers, and the diverse artistic expressions facilitated through collaborations with dance networks both domestic and international. This 30th edition will also feature the “HOTPOT East Asia Dance Platform”, launched in 2017 and organized through a multilateral collaboration between three dance festivals in Hong Kong, Seoul, and Yokohama.
