Jeon Misook<Jeon Misook Dance Company>“Bow”
© BAKI
The simple gesture of bending forward to acknowledge the presence of another carries a wealth of symbolism and etiquette.
With BOW, Jeon Misook Dance Company investigates the relationship between the bower and the person being bowed to, and how this tradition differs from one meeting to another, questioning the sincerity of the gesture that society has agreed to recognize as a mark of respect. The choreographer constantly pushes dancers’ physical limits, making BOW a piece where the movements range from fluid to erratic, and where beauty and intelligence meet. BOW captures the beauty of Korea by interpreting the beauty of empty space, lighting, and costumes with a contemporary twist.

Keum Baesub<Chumpan Yamoo>“Worn out”
My ability to sense in relation to moving things is wearing out before I know it.
I fail to communicate with moving things, resulting in malfunction and misunderstanding.
While my ability to perceive moving things has worn off, I am creating a relationship with things that do not move.
I am beginning to resemble things that do not move.
‘The process of becoming similar through wear and tear’
I am embracing this wear and tear.

Keum Baesub<Chumpan Yamoo>
Chumpan Yamoo was founded in 2009 based in Korea (Seoul) and the relationship between humans has been its focus ever since.
The premiere of As for Me in 2019 was a watershed and, since then, we have developed our own methodology of “creative concept of separation,” which aims to dismantle works by separation and pursue creating works with blank spaces.
Rather than driving the audience as planned, each element floats, encounters coincidences, and wanders with unfamiliar sensations. The audience intervenes in the empty space with their own emotions, senses, and experiences.
We believe that the audience will have more freedom of imagination and interpretation right at the moment when the empty space appears.
