ABOUT

METHOD / SPACE / PRESENCE

The key words for the 24th Yokohama Dance Collection 2019 are ‘METHOD / SPACE / PRESENCE’. For it, we select artists whose distinctive expressive modalities have ongoing creative influence internationally. Yokohama Dance Collection 2019 includes competitions bringing together choreographers active in Japan, elsewhere in Asia, and in other parts of the globe in a diverse, three-week program that unveils the fascination of dance in outdoor performances as well as on stage at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No.1 and the Yokohama Nigiwaiza Small Hall.

These artists have mastered their distinctive, original methods through bringing together their deep thinking about physical movement and their coherent crea-tive concepts, constantly renewing their work while transcending a variety of art forms. Their paths and thinking are present in the spaces in which they per-form. Through their transformative processes, these artists create unique space-time experiences. To those of us who live in a world flooded with excess information, Yokohama Dance Collection 2019 represents an unparalleled op-portunity to share those times and places and experience each of these artists’ expressive fortes and abundant creativity.
