  • OKUNO Miwa
    Title:“Highlight of Decline”
    Having started studying modern dance at the age of three, Okuno Miwa has been active in Japan and abroad since joining <Leni-Basso> in 2006. She began performing as a soloist in 2009 and presented “【00】~ Shirei~ “ in the 2010 「Dance Ga Mitai! Newcomer Series 8」. In 2011, she studied independently in Europe, returning to Japan to engage in new creative endeavors. Her goal is to create a space in which the body is given presence as an object.

    Title:“Nice to meet you”
    Born in 1985 in Aomori, Ara Yuhei grew up in the heat of Kumagaya. He began dancing, by chance, at about the age of twenty. At twenty-two, he spent a month wandering in the Middle East. He has performed as a soloist with <Makotocluv>, <Co. Yamada Un>, and other companies. Grateful for the kindness of so many people, he continues to dance and to wonder whether dance is right for him.

    Title:“YES OR NO”
    In 2008, upon graduating from the Kyoto University of Art and Design, this duo began their stage careers, including choreographing and performing new creative dance works. Their awards include a「Condors Choreography Competition」prize and the grand prize at「CONNECT vol. 4」.

  • 【HANAMOTO Yuka】
    Hanamoto Yuka began studying classical ballet at the age of three. A graduate of the performing arts department of Kyoto University of Art and Design, she is engaged in a variety of activities, including participating in the <KIKIKIKIKIKI> dance company, led by Kitamari.

    【MATSUKI Moe】
    Matsuki Moe began learning street dance at the age of twelve. A graduate of the performing arts department of Kyoto University of Art and Design, she has performed in a variety of theater and other events, mainly in the Kansai region.

    Title:“Solo for Now-in the Movement”
    Lin Yu ju holds a master degree of Fine Arts in Taipei National University of the Arts. She is a former <Cloud Gate2> dancer. Lin currently collaborates with <Shuyi and Dancers>, <Shakespeare’s Wild sisters Group>, and etc. She has started to choreograph since 2008. Her works include: “Basement” as a resident work in Treignac, France, 2010, and more.

    Title:“15th month of year”
    Having studied classical ballet from childhood, Irite Anna began contemporary dance with Kisanuki Kuniko while a student at J. F. Oberlin University and went on to perform in works by a variety of choreographers. She has participated in <Makotocluv> since 2009 and has been expanding her range of activities to include presenting her own solo works, choreographing promotional music videos, and performing. In 2011, she began working with <21st Century GEBA GEBA dance company>, which was formed by dancers who had studied at J. F. Oberlin University.

    Title:“foot,foot step sound and step”
    Kihara Kota studied with Kato Miyako and Kihara Yuko and is a member of <the Kato Miyako Dance Space>. He is also performing with Terasoma Aya and Shiokawa Yukako as <Santai>. In 2012, he joined <Co. Yamada Un> for “A Town Without Seasons”. In 2011, he graduated from the contemporary dance program within the theater department of the Nihon University College of Art, winning the Nihon University President’s Award. In 2010, he received first prize in「the contemporary dance section of the National Dance Competition of Japan」. He also was awarded first prize in「the creative section of the Kobe Dance Competition」in 2008, 2010, and 2012. In 2012, he received first prize in「the contemporary dance section of the Saitama Dance Competition」.

    Title:“good bye”
    Nakamura Yo began studying contemporary dance in the Modern Dance Club at Waseda University. Since 2009, she has taken part as their assistant in the choreography of Onodera Shuji and Kondo Ryohei. She has also appeared in a Go Hiromi music video, a DoCoMo commercial, and other productions. She began creating her own works last year. She took part in Competition II of the 2012 「Yokohama Dance Collection EX」and「the NEXTREAM21 Dance Competition」, in which she received the Jury Award.

    Title:“A bite”
    Sayaka Akitsu is a performer and dance maker. Her artistic career started from a young age being involved in classical ballet and later on working for professional ballet productions during her contemporary dance studies in Kyoto. In 2008 she relocated to Amsterdam where she works for a variety of art projects and often collaborates as an improviser with <Magpie Umbrella> directed by Katie Duck. Since 2009 she started making her own choreographies presented in various international festivals and venues in Japan, the Netherlands, and Israel.

    Title:“Caricature”
    Born in 1986, Kimura Aiko grew up in Yokohama and started to study dance at the age of five. As a student of OBIRIN University, she studied contemporary dance with Professor Kisanuki Kuniko. She has created a series of solo dance under the title of“Embracing Warm Water” since 2009. Its theme is to search for self in reality. In 2011, she won the Newcomer Award at「Dance Ga Mitai! Newcomer Series 9」. Kimura is currently an adjunct instructor in physical expression at Kanagawa Sohgoh High School. She also took part in Competition II of the 2012「Yokohama Dance Collection EX」.

    Title:“twilight”
    Born in Yokohama in 1986, Shimada Tadashi studied painting in childhood and, from the age of 19, performance methods at <UPS Academy>, a school directed by Narahashi Yoko. There he first experienced physical expression as an art form and, the following year, presented Hirugao; since then his career has focused on solo performances.

    Title:“Coexistence”
    Boram Kim entered into the field of contemporary dance unconventionally. Working as a back-up dancer for 10 years, he began to wonder about how dance speaks to the audience, and he began to develop his own choreography. Kim established <Ambiguous Dance Company> in 2007. To Kim, creating dance works flushes out uncertainties engrained within him. In the process of creating, stories and answers to these uncertainties are existentially and inherently revealed.

    prizewinner TAKAHASHI Kazumasa

    Born 26 January, 1989, Takahashi has won prizes in street dance and other contests, performs in club events, and, at the same time, is developing his own venues for creative expression, mainly through organizing independent performances. After winning the Outstanding New Artist Prize at ÅuYokohama Dance Collection EX2012Åv, he is continuing his street dance activities while performing his work at Kagurazaka die pratze, appearing as a extra dancer in "See/Saw" with Dance Company , which is led by Mikuni Yanaihara, moving between street dance and contemporary dance as he seizes every opportunity to present his own creative work.

    Title:“I am You”
    Hamada began studying jazz and hip-hop at Dance Studio mind at the age of ten. Thus far, he has performed in contemporary dance works choreographed by Kondo Ryohei, Shimaji Yasutake, and Iwabuchi Teita. He received the Kitanippon Shimbun-sha Prize at 「ART.M2011」 and performed in the 「Za Koenji Dance Awards」. In May, 2012, he successfully auditioned to become an exchange student at the Centre national de danse contemporaine—Angers, and went to France.

    Title:“POLLOCK”
    Currently a student in the performing arts program at Tamagawa University, Hashimoto had had no dance experience until he entered university, where he began learning performance techniques and Nihon Buyo (traditional dance) and studied contemporary dance with Tamagawa Sayaka. He has appeared in dance performances at the university and is constantly working to expand his own range of expression. He presented “Pollock”, the first piece he has choreographed himself, at 「the Performing Arts Fair 2012」, at the Aoyama Round Theater.

    Title:“Nine seconds before butterfly”
    Born on 22 June 1987, Fujisaki is currently enrolled in a master’s program at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo. She began studying modern dance as a child and contemporary dance in 2009. While leading a study group on dance at school, she began her creative work, using her own techniques. Sensitive to the details of her bodily reactions to small shocks, internal and external, she has been experimenting recently with amplifying their effects.

    While studying at Ochanomizu University, Tanoue was greatly influenced by the experience of performing in works by Hirahara Shintaro and Carmen Werner, among others. After graduation, she participated in <Dance Company Nomade~s>, <Project OH!YAMA>, <Condors Special Tasx Team AKATZKI>, and other groups. Her own choreography includes “um . . .”, “Sugiru”, and “picKnic”. Tanoue has now organized the group <MaMaNiMaNiMaNi> and is seriously pursuing a career as a choreographer.

    Title:“mosyu mosyu mosyu”
    From early childhood, Igarashi suffered from shyness, obesity, and a complex about his body, especially his short arms and legs and large face. At university, however, he encountered dance and experienced the excitement of expressing himself through the body, of creating a space (a world view of his own). That discovery has empowered him to break down his complex through his activities in dance. His motto is now “Not just a fatty, a fatty who can dance.” In addition to his own team, he is also affiliated with , which is led by Date Maiko.

    Title:“How to spend Sunday”
    Goto graduated from the Japan Women’s College of Physical Education in 2012. She has collaborated in choreography with Kimura Minako, Seki Kaori, and Iwabuchi Teita and has performed in works by Iwabuchi Takiko, Kaeru P, and Kawamura Mikiko. Besides dancing, she works in her family’s butcher shop.

    Title:“Lonely Routine”
    Kanai, having learned of a variety of arts during his childhood through the local parent-child theater, became interested in the performing arts. He entered the performing arts program at Tamagawa University in 2006 to study theater, aiming to become a stage actor. In the process, he encountered contemporary dance and studied physical expression with Tamagawa Sayaka. After graduation, he joined <S.W.A.T. (Specially Warped Actors’ Team)> and continues to perform with that group.

    Title:“HUM”
    Born in Osaka and raised in Yokohama, Shirai now lives in Itabashi, Tokyo. In 2010, she graduate from the department of expression studies at Rikkyo University. In 2011, she performed in “Grief of Euridice”, which was choreographed by Kamimura Megumi; in 2012, she performed in “Bartleby” with <the performance unit ttu>. She is also engaged in presenting her own compositions and in collaborative work with video artists.

    Born in 1992, Tan is relatively new to dance but has over six years experience in juggling, including performing in shows overseas. He is presently exploring the boundaries between the circus and contemporary dance.

    Title:“Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough”
    Nita began studying classical ballet while a fourth grader but, feeling uncomfortable in tights, quit in the sixth grade. In junior high school, he began break dancing. He learned about contemporary dance in high school, became interested, and studied with Imada Kojiro. He is presently studying dance in the contemporary dance program within the theater department of the Nihon University College of Art.

    Title:“KAKUSHIN-HAN”
    Masumizu, who began working in modern dance in the dance club at Kyushu Women’s High School. A graduate of J. F. Oberlin University’s College of Performing and Visual Arts, she performed while a student in works choreographed by Kisanuki Kuniko and Ito Chie. After working as a cheerleader for a professional baseball team, she became the team leader in <Sumidagawa Leaders>, choreographed by Yasumoto Masako. While she regards the dance duo <YoneEri> with Yoneda Saori as her base, she also performs with <Dance Company Baobab>, led by Kitao Wataru, and other groups.

    Title:“Nahoko”
    Born in Kobe in 1988, Hori began studying jazz dance at the age of ten and went on to the dance education course at Ochanomizu University. She first experienced contemporary dance upon coming to Tokyo to enter that university. She has performed in works choreographed by Takano Miwako, Shintaku Ippei, Ito Kaori, and Maeno Yoriko. She will also participate in Kondo Ryohei’s 「Kagurazaka Tosaka Plan」 in November, 2012.

    Title:“ECHOES”
    Muraoka graduated from the performing arts program at Tamagawa University in March, 2012. There he studied with Tamagawa Sayaka and worked on his graduation piece (“Echoes”, which he is performing in this competition). He also performed in “Me, this and that”, by Tsukada Ami, which received the Encouragement Prize in Competition II of 「Yokohama Dance Collection EX 2012」. Having studied creative dance, in the contemporary dance mode, at university, Muraoka also continues to be active in street dance and break dance.

    Title:“The feeling of a flea”
    KUROSU began street dancing in high school as a way of attracting girls.He learned of contemporary dance at university.Today, attracting girls is not why he dances. He won at 「Dance creation award 2012」.He also takes part in <Hatsuden Note>,SEKI Kaori, <Baby-Q> and performs in a variety of venues.

    Title:“A think ordinary”
    Matsuda, who first began studying jazz dance at eighteen, has worked in a variety of other genres, including hip-hop, rock, and contemporary dance. Ambitiously engaged in a numerous creative activities, he revealed his “Sleepless Night”, in his first independent performance, in 2010, and is involved in both choreographing and performing. At present, while performing in a variety of settings, he continues to explore his own sensibilities, while presenting his work at every opportunity. He is intensely engaged in studying both technique and creative production.
