Japan-Korea Dance Exchange Project
Yokohama Dance Collection and Seoul Dance Collection are the leading contemporary dance competitions in Japan and Korea. Now prize-winning choreographers from both competitions will bring the dance compositions that were the fruit of a month-long residence in Korea to Yokohama for further intensification and polishing. What form will these works, inspired by the creative processes of two choreographers of very different backgrounds, achieve in Yokohama? Don't miss these must-see performances.

[Choreographer/Dancer] Osanai Yumi (Japan; Winner in Yokohama Dance Collection R 2009 and 2010) Specialized in dance at university; participated in H. Art Chaos and Project OH!YAMA while a student. Began choreographing in 2008. Received the Jury Prize at Yokohama Dance Collection R 2009 and the French Embassy Prize for Young Choreographers and the MASDANZA-EU Prize at Yokohama Dance Collection R 2010. Was awarded second prize in the solo division of MASDANZA in Spain. Carried out a six-month residence at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers, France. Participated as a dancer in Dance Company MOO-E, a dance group in Korea organized by Sung-yong Kim. Is a special adjunct instructor (stage presentation) at the Tokyo Metropolitan High School of Arts. Pouring her energies into presenting her work, she performed Namida, a work created during her residence in France, in July, 2011, and will perform a new work at Yokohama Dance Collection in February, 2012 (both performances in Red Brick Warehouse Number 1). |

[Choreographer] RO KyungAe (Korea; Winner in Seoul Dance Collection 2010) Graduated from the European Dance Development Centre in Arnhem, Netherlands, where she studied physical awareness, movement research, theater composition, and improvisation. Greatly influenced by Tony Tacher and Eva Karzag, she began to search for her own methodology and to develop creative ideas. After graduation, she moved to Brussels, Belgium, where she created an association, VZW CABRA, of six choreographers, including Sara Manente, Jaime Llopis, Marcos Simoes, Norberto Llopis and Varina Cantovila. All the members have worked based in Belgium and in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Spain and Korea. CABRA aims to create a new concept of the performing arts, dealing with various arts forms such as performing arts, visual arts, film, live arts, and human installations. |
[Dancer] Jeong EonJin Graduated from the department of visual communication design, Hongik University. Has been working as a graphic designer and is involved in dance and design projects since 2010. Has submitted audio-visual work to Ex-is (Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul) and Free Music Festival and has been working with choreographer Ro KyungAe in Unspecific Language. She is motivated to balance visual graphic work and dance projects under the common theme of "creation of art." |
[Dancer] Harada Yuriko A Tokyo native, Harada studied Western philosophy and art at Waseda University. She began creating her own dance works while at university and performed a solo work at die pratze New Figure Dance Festival in 2009. In 2010, she participated in a duo work in Theater 21 Fest. For this project, her participation follows a residence in Yokohama. |

Guo Rui
Title: "Duration"
Born in Chongqing, China, Guo studied folk dance at the Beijing Academy. After graduation, he danced in Guo is interested in communication between the arts and the public and is exploring the importance of dance in Chinese society. Guo is working on his new project, "China In Motion", with a dance school in China.
Pun Siu-fai
Title: "The Virgin"

Artistic Director, <Guangdong Modern Dance Company>.Born in Hong Kong, Pun Siu-fai studied dance in New York in 1987, where he had performed and created dances extensively. In 1998, Pun launched the Environmental Dance Series to transform historical sites into performance spaces. From 1998 to 2004, Pun was commissioned to create over 200 site-specific productions in Hong Kong.
Pun was appointed Artistic Director of <Guangdong Modern Dance Company> in 2007 and soon created "Blue Picasso" for the Company. His environmental works "Merry-Go-Round" and "Man Talk" had a huge impact in Guangzhou in 2008. In the same year, he was commissioned to create "Thousand Faces of Grimm" by the Deutschland und China ? Gemeinsam in Bewegung. "Rice, Spice, Zen, Colors" was invited to tour in Germany, Taiwan and Beijing. His commission work "Mr. Vampire" premiered at the 2010 New Vision Arts Festival in Hong Kong. In 2011, Pun further developed "Mr. Vampire into A Cult Memo", as the opening performance of [the 8th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival].
Izabela Chlewińska
Title: "TRALFAMADORIA"
Born in 1980 in Poland. Dancer, choreographer, teacher. A recipient of the DANCEWEB Scholarship for the 2008 「Impulstanz dance workshops and festival」 in Vienna. A recipient of a individual scholarship from Minister of Culture (Poland 2009). A member of <EMBASSY OF...>, and international collective of 70 young artists from all over the world. She has been working on new solo piece titled "TRALFAMADORIA" with Arkadi Zaides, a dancer and choreographer from Israel (premiere/residency 2011 in Gdansk, Poland).
She has participated in many coaching projects and international workshops (including Jan Fabre, Nigel Charnock, Meg Stuart, Michael Schumacher, David Zambrano, Peeping Tom, Emio Greco, Julyan Hamilton, and Joe Alter).
She has also participated in many international dance festivals as a performer ([Prisma Forum] in Mexico,[ImpulsTanz] in Vienna,[Ponderosa Dance Festival] in Germany, and International Dance Festivals in Poland, among others).
The performance "Tralfamadoria" was realised within the project「residency/premiere 2011」under the umbrella of Gdansk Dance Festival 2011. Supported by City of Gdansk , the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage ,
