Akita Noriko
Born in Hiroshima Prefecture. Graduated from J. F. Oberlin University, Arts and Culture Dept. While in school, Akita performed in works choreographed by Kisanuki Kuniko and Kitao Wataru. (Enthusiastic about dancing in theater.) Moved to Kobe City after graduating university. She sees dance as a fluctuation of the mind before the body moves and memories of experiences that accompany physical sensations. She dances and choreographs to bring them up into shared space through the dancer’s body and other things.
Imai Ako
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. Started modern dance at an early age. Studied abroad in Mexico for a year in high school. Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Music, Department of Musical Creativity and the Environment. Currently a graduate student at Yokohama National University, where she is researching methods for extracting trivial everyday gestures.
Okada Hiroe
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. Studied contemporary dance under Kisanuki Kuniko at J. F. Oberlin University. She has presented her own creative works at Session House, Studio HIKARI, etc., and has also appeared in video projects including music videos and other forms of promotional art.
Kitamura Sakura
Born in Tokyo. Enrolled in the Graduate School of Arts, Rikkyo University, majoring in Education. Studied classical ballet and modern dance at Dance 01, Ballet Crystal from the age of 5. Currently a member of Dance 01. She is an accomplished dancer with a strong musical background, having also studied piano and eurhythmics since the age of 3. Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms are at the backbone of her style.
Saito Kenichi
Born in Saitama Prefecture. Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 2021 with a major in painting. Since his studies, he has exhibited paintings, graphic designs, videos, and performances. His videos and performances are often inspired by children’s games.
SHIon
Born in Saitama Prefecture. She started classical ballet and jazz dance at the age of 3. Entered Japan Women’s College of Physical Education while continuing to create pieces. Currently, she works as a freelance dancer. She created a solo work based on her study abroad and presented it at “ZA-KOENJI DANCE AWARD II”. She has also appeared and choreographed in commercials, music videos, and live performances.
Matsuzaki Momoko
Born in Kyoto Prefecture. Started learning Jazz dance and Hip Hop at the age of 18, and is now active in her own style incorporating contemporary dance. She has also appeared and choreographed in commercials, music videos, and musicals, as well as giving lectures as a dance instructor.
Miya Yusuke
Born in Niigata Prefecture. He joined the creative dance club in high school and started dancing at the age of 15. While at Tsukuba University he studied under Hirayama Motoko while continuing to dance for school classes and at graduate school. He has been fortunate to perform in works by many choreographers, including Kondo Ryohei, Fujita Yoshihiro, Umeda Hiroaki, Yanagimoto Masahiro, Kumagai Hiroaki, Nakamura Yo, and Kakizaki Mariko. Currently, he performs pieces around the key themes of “reality, no lies, muddiness, and motive”.
Miwa Reina
Born in Saitama Prefecture. Majored in dance at Japan Women’s College of Physical Education. Started learning jazz dance at the age of 8. In middle school and high school, she also competed in track and field (jumping). At university, she discovered contemporary dance and has been exploring improvisation in particular on a daily basis ever since.
The work presented this time, “shimaikata”, is a contestant in the 25th Creative Dance Competition for Small Groups.
Yasunaga Hiyori
Born in Ibaraki Prefecture, she started modern ballet at the age of 6. She discovered contemporary dance at age 14 and became interested in creating her own works. Currently enrolled at Tsukuba University, majoring in dance, she researches the relationship between dance pieces and everyday movements, and creates and presents performances.
