Workshop

Master Class for Choreographers, with Lorrina Barrientos

 Rorena Barientos

A workshop on the essence of choreography, for the young choreographer. The workshop will begin with the performance of a work, the continue step by step through a presentation by the choreographer, discussion, analysis using photographs, paintings, and videos, revision, re-performance, and further discussion. Prior to the workshop, participants will be expected to engage in photo reportage to sharpen their sense of how a dance is seen. The focus will be on how the act of "seeing" is reflected in both the choreography and the work. By carefully treating both choreography and dance from the perspective of composition, this workshop is an opportunity for participants to focus intensively on their art.

Lorrina Barrientos (neé Niclas) is the founder and was until 1999 the director of the Rencontres Chorégraphiques de Bagnolet. She has traveled the world serving as a judge on dance-related panels. She is particularly interested in the training of young artists who contribute to the worlds of dance and related arts and a renowned author and critic of dance.
