What does Japan need in a dance market?

Overview: Kajo NELLES is director of a German festival that offers a venue for artists to promote their works themselves. Anita van DOLEN is a Dutch festival programmer who is launching a new section for young choreographers to present their works in an existing festival. MIURA Masashi is a well known critic. The panelists will describe the situations in their countries and discuss what market functions Japan's theaters and festivals need for Japanese artists to become increasingly active overseas.

Kajo NELLES (Germany) 
[Director, Internationale tanzmesse nrw]
Director of Internationale tanzmesse nrw, a biennial contemporary dance festival held in Dusseldorf since 1994. The most recent festival (2006) included a showcase with live performances and displays by over 40 choreographers, public performances, an open studio (an opportunity for choreographers to present and sell their own work), dance films, a dance photo exhibition, a symposium, a conference, and other events. NELLES is also the business director of the Contemporary Dance Association of the state of NRW, Germany.

Anita van DOLEN (Netherlands) 
[Programmer, Julidance Next, and Dance & Theatre Programmer, Melkweg]
van DOLEN is the programmer for Julidance Next, the division for young choreographers being added to Julidance, a comprehesive dance festival, in 2007. As the dance and theater programmer for the Melkweg, a multifunctional performance center in Amsterdam, she focuses on presenting experimental work by young artists and collaborative work.
