Last year’s prizewinners return to Yokohama to show what they have learned in the year since earning their awards.

All the choreographers who received awards in the 2006 Yokohama Dance Collection R are gathering once again Yokohama. Their joint performance will offer an exciting reprise of the growth and mastery these Yokohama-launched choreographers have achieved.

winner of the Yokohama Prize for Brilliant Future in the 2006 Solo×Duo<Compétition>+

A native of Osaka, Anna had studied ballet, modern dance, and breakdance when her eyes were opened to the possibilities of improvisation. Moving to Tokyo in 1999, she formed zeroc, a dance company, and has presented many works. In February, 2002, she was awarded the French Embassy Prize for Young Choreographers at the Yokohama Solo x Duo . In October, 2002, she both won the prize in the choreography section of the 11Masdanza, the International Contemporary Dance Festival of the Canary Islands, and was awarded the Audience Prize, for which the audience votes to select the winner.

Kawaguchi Yui, who lives in Berlin, studied classic ballet from early childhood, then modern, jazz, and street dance. She has participated in performances with, for example, the contemporary dance company H. Art Chaos and with Yamazaki Kota, and her unique movement, both graceful and subversive, has led to her being employed in many television commercials, films, and promotional videos. Starting in 2001, her work focused on collaboration with media drive unit 66b/cell; she was invited to perform at ARS Electronica, the world media festival, in 2002, and the Seoul International Dance Festival in 2003. She began working in Berlin in 2005 and has been invited to participate in Tanztage ’06 and Rohkunstbau, an international art festival, unveiling a series of new works. Expanding her personal network, Kawaguchi also performs in local clubs and on the street.

Majored in journalism at Sophia University, Tokyo. Started to dance while a student at the university. After graduating in 1997, learned contemporary dance from Kuniko Kisanuki. Worked as a dancer in several groups such as Kuniko Kisanuki + néo and Compagnie L.S.D.S directed by Kosi Hidama and presented own solo works at the same time. From the end of 2003, she started to create group dance piece based on her own idea called "dance editing". The major works are 5/6,200,000,000 stories, lemon bomb -trio version-, pani pani and etc. lemon bomb-trio version- received Judge Award at Yokohama Solo x Duo Competition+ in January 2006. Afterwards, the piece has been presented in Korea Japan Dance Festival in Seoul (May 2006) and 11MASDANZA, International Contemporary Dance Festival of the Canary Islands, Spain (October 2006). The new piece Muteki ( invincible) is inspired by a script written by Bo Okada, the artistic director of Tokyo Nice. Hamaguchi will develop her solo created for drama-reading performance of the theatre company in June 2006 into a trio dance.
