A person/human step outside of them self, to step inside, to help them come out of them self, to be able to recognize the second body.
To look at them self – to then step back.To have the courage to express oneself, reflection. Earlier in Matsuyama we referred to it as “second-body”. The first year in Yokohama, Yuki expressed “Braveheart”. I just like to work with people to use their knowledge and increase their techniques with “the second body”. The harmony which is developed within the person is then expressed outwardly and a physical sense of sharing occurs. We work on understanding and sharing the space around us with ourselves, our second bodies and the other elements in the room. People, architecture, light, chairs, coffee cups etc… our environment.
A result from working with and sharing the environment, sometimes it is the simple element of “harmony.” That is what we are working for. That is our goal.

Amanda Miller

Amanda Miller grew up in North Carolina and began her education at  the North Carolina School of the Arts. After concluding her training in New York she danced with the Chicago Lyrical Opera Ballet before coming to Berlin to work with the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 1984 William Forsythe invited her to join his company in Frankfurt, first as dancer and later as House Choreographer. In 1992 Amanda Miller founded her own company Pretty Ugly which since becoming resident in Freiburg in 1997 is now called Ballett Freiburg Pretty Ugly. Amanda Miller continues to work as a freelance choreographer for companies such as Ballett Frankfurt, London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Bat-Sheva Dance Company, Balletto di Toscana, Gulbenkian Ballett and the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève.
Since Jochen Ulrich's company Tanzforum in Cologne had to close in 1997, there has been no dance company in residence, until today now, when choreographer Amanda Miller and her Pretty Ugly Dance Company were announced as the new Cologne based dance company.

KAWAGUCHI Takao(Performer/Dancer)

A performer and dancer, he has participated since 1996 as a creative member of the performance group Dumb Type. Since 2000, he has also been developing his own solo activities and since 2003 has been collaboration with artists and performers in domains that straddle music and art. Neither dance nor theater, that body of work “can only be described as performance” (Ishikawa Tatsuro, critic, Asahi Shimbun, 12 March 2005).
